Somewhere In Between

Life is found in the in between. In between good and bad, love and hate, joy and pain, hope and despair.

Dad, Hiking and can you guess Cornhole!

Posted by Jordan on May 20, 2008

My dad was in town this past weekend.  We were able to get out into the woods and of course we played a little cornhole.  I think the west coast has gotten into my blood and thus diminished my cornhole playing ability.  My dad who has lived in the midwest his entire life won at least 5 games in a row against me.

Our Summit, somewhere around 5000 ft, named Mt. Henry in honor of Henry’s first summit.

Look at that form!

He’s getting tired from whooping my ass

A Few Good Things…

Posted by Jordan on January 22, 2007

Number One: This is an obvious one, the Chicago Bears are going to the Super Bowl!

Number Two: Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have entered the race for the democratic presidential nomination. I know African Americans have run before, and I am sure that there have been women, but in the past they have not actually had a chance to win. I hope that people of all political persuasions can recognize this as a good thing. In our land of liberty racism and sexism continues to exist, but maybe Barack and Hillary are evidence that some things are changing. It can also be noted that the governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, is also expected to announce his candidacy, he is Hispanic.

Number Three: Seattle opened up a new park today. It is a ten minute walk from our apartment, and only a couple of blocks from school. It is called the Olympic Sculpture Park. I walked down there this afternoon to check out the opening festivities. It provides downtown Seattle with access to the waterfront, and adds some much needed green space, as well as some cool sculpturific type artsy stuff. Coming from Chicago, a city that has done wonders with its waterfront, I am sometimes let down by Seattle, but this park is a beautiful addition. I took a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.

The red building is Mars Hill Graduate School.

Number Four: School starts for me tommorow and I will be walking there. No more commute to Bothell!

Number Five: I might be transfered to a Starbucks that is a block away from school. Thus meaning I can walk there as well.

And what about you, what are some good things that you know of?

Only in Seattle

Posted by Jordan on October 22, 2006

If you ever visit Seattle you quickly realize it has quite the thriving homeless population. It is a sad situation, and it break’s your heart as you encounter these people and realize the amount of pain they have suffered in thier lives. But the unique thing about the people who have come upon hard times in Seattle is that they often have quite the sense of humor. This is seen in their creative signs they hold expressing their need for money. I thought I would share this one with you. It definately made me laugh.

You thought I was joking when I said my tent would be used when we didn’t have a home!

Niether Kate nor I had to work this weekend so we decided to go camping. We spent the first night close to the beach at Bay View State Park about an hour north of Seattle. It was ok, it was pretty loud and this one kid screamed for an hour straight.

But last night we found a beautiful campsite in North Cascades National Park on the Skagit River. A few things about NCNP: It is the snowiest place in the lower 48, it has the most glaciers in the US besides Alaska (around 300), and it was the least visited National Park in 2004. It is definately one of the most rugged wilderness areas in the lower 48. I can’t wait till we can head out there with our backpacks.

Camping on the Skagit River in North Cascades National Park.

They have big trees in Washington, or maybe Kate is shrinking because of all the hippie organic food. How do they expect us to grow without injected hormones in our food?

Future hikes?
